Arsenal youngster on trial at WHU
Thanks to KUMB for this:

West Ham have taken Arsenal's teenage defender George Dobson on trial.

The web was awash with rumour and speculation yesterday afternoon when 17-year-old Dobson was pictured at Chadwell Heath training in West Ham's colours.

And KUMB can reveal that the Hammers are hoping to tie up a deal for the central defender, who is set to leave the Emirates having decided that he is unlikely to make the first team squad in the near future.

Dobson, who hails from Harold Wood made his debut for Arsenal's youth team in the 2012/13 season and has also featured sporadically at Under 21 level since. A central defender by trade, he has also featured as a defensive midfielder.

Should he complete a move to West Ham, Dobson will become the second youngster to move from Arsenal in recent seasons, following the capture of 18-year-old Jordan Brown in summer 2013.

Re: Arsenal youngster on trial at WHU
"Arsenal have a player 'absolutely destined for stardom' on their hands in the shape of teenager George Dobson, according to one individual who knows him very well.

The 17-year-old centre back, who can also play in a holding midfield role, was rewarded for his progression through the Gunners' youth system with a first professional contract back in November.

He's a regular in the U18s and U19 UEFA Youth League side, and has also been involved with the Arsenal U21s this season.

His rise through the ranks at the Emirates Stadium has not come as a surprise to Ian Wignall though, and the Brentwood School's director of sport is expecting big things of his former pupil.

"We saw him at first-year trials (at Brentwood school) and it was just absolutely clear that he was going to be one of the better players for the team," Wignall told the Brentwood Gazette.

hilst the Gunners might utilise Dobson at the back, Wignall admits Brentwood would do the opposite, pushing the defender up-front and utilising his talent on the ball going forward.

"He is a traditional modern-day centre-half although we used to play him as a centre-forward," he added.
Fantastic footwork

"We had good players in other areas and George fitted a gap where he scored a huge amount of goals over his time at the school and had fantastic footwork for a schoolboy."

Despite some of Arsenal's recent troubles on the pitch, Dobson is still some way off Arsene Wenger's first team in north London.

The Frenchman regularly bloods young players in the League Cup, but the Gunners crashed out to Southampton in the third round this season. His FA Cup side is generally stronger, and Wenger has already confirmed that the same squad of player picked on New Year's day will be named against Hull."
